First you need to know what type of job you want. If you are unsure about what you are looking for, then chances are you won't be able to find it. Once you know what type of job you are looking for, then what?
The key to a good job search is to leverage all the resources that are available to you. These resources include:
- Friends, family and old coworkers. Each of these groups can be a great source of leads for networking.
- Company websites. If a company is hiring, they may post their jobs on their own website. Some companies will also save your information and match you with new openings as they become available.
- Job boards. Although some job boards contain a large set of job listings, other job boards can be tailored for niche professions or specific locations. Others may provide innovative technology to help a job seeker throughout their job search. Additionally, some companies that don't have the resources to list job openings on their site use job boards to announce their openings.
- Social networking sites. Depending on what industry you are looking for work in, you may find companies leveraging popular social networking tools like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. It doesn't hurt to check out these sites throughout your job search.
Again, the key to a good job search is finding as many relevant opportunities as possible. Checking-in with your network, company websites, job boards and social networking sites are great places to start.
