Recruiters, headhunters and other gatekeepers.

During your job search, you may encounter several professionals who are either looking to hire you directly or act as liaison between companies and job seekers. Who are they? What do they do? Do you need one? Want to find out how to become your own headhunter? Let Jobfox guide you.

Type of Recruiters

The two types of recruiters you may encounter are corporate recruiters and contingency recruiters.

Corporate recruiters are hired by a company to find new employees. The company may chose to retain a recruiter or pay a portion of their fee upfront, and then pay them the rest once a hire has been made.

Contingency recruiters are not hired directly by a company to find new employees. However, they do get paid a fee only if a company hires a candidate that they found.

It is important for job seekers to understand that both types of recruiters get paid by the hiring company and therefore work for the company, not for you, the job seeker. This may help explain why you may hear from them every once in a while and then not hear from them again if your experience doesn't meet their hiring needs.
